Minor Hockey Cross Training

Premier Sports Leagues offers different cross training programs for minor hockey athletes. The sport of floorball is a modified, safer version of the more popular indoor hockey and is played in a small area (gym) which equates to smaller, tight play of the larger ice surface.

MINOR HOCKEY CROSS TRAINING & PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CLINIC

Our Off Ice Cross Training Clinics (i.e. dryland training) are the best form of off ice development training for minor hockey players as it uses similar muscles, skills and play making in a cost effective, fun & exciting way .

We provide all the equipment along with a Certified Facilitator/ Referee.  The ONE hour session starts by introducing players to the basic rules of floorball (approximately 10-15 minutes).  Following the demonstration of the rules of play, players are assigned to teams (two or more depending on the format of play) and then a series of mini games are played for the balance of the hour session.  Small area game play helps players work on their hockey fundamentals at a higher tempo.  More importantly, they are enjoying floorball play without knowing development is taking place

NOTE:  Premier Sports does not provide the gym space.  Many parents/ caregivers have networks or personal friends that MIGHT help them find gym space. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that gym space be at least 30 ft wide and 60 feet long to properly enjoy floorball.  We can help the team manager/ coach find and book a gym rental (extra cost MAY be incurred with renting a gym)

Prior to renting/ securing the gym, check to ensure you are aware of their insurance requirements and the risks.  Premier Sports Leagues (ie Premier Floorball) DOES NOT provide property or personal insurance for these events and therefore we required WAIVERS to be signed prior to a player participating.  NOTE: MOST minor hockey associations players' insurance covers off ice development activities such as floorball.

GOALS
  • provide players an opportunity to develop skills like puck/ ball control, passing, and shooting, using similar playing techniques as hockey
  • help players become better conditioned (aerobic) by using drills and/or mini games that require speed, agility and many transition movements during play
  • help players increase their decision making (“mind speed“) via high tempo games in a smaller playing (gym) area, challenging them to view and choose play options much quicker pace (i.e. time & space, read & react, quick transitions)
  • work with coaching staff to plan, demonstrate and execute ‘controlled’ play tactics and systems in a space that is less expensive or more available than the rink ice
  • create an environment where the players are having FUN and unaware that they are improving their hockey skills
  • build overall ‘hockey sense’ awareness from repeated clinics
