Tournaments FAQ (General)

TOURNAMENT FAQs

HOW DO I REGISTER TO PLAY IN A TOURNAMENT?
Premier Sports Leagues usually hosts several of its own tournaments every year.  These tournaments are mostly recreational and are geared towards players who are just learning our sports.  Experience is helpful but not essential.  Premier Sports Leagues will provide information to all the teams prior to the tournament to familiarize the players, coaches of the rules of play

To register either select REGISTER or TOURNAMENTS from the menu of your community Club website.  Most tournaments require the registration of a team, however, where players may not be associated with a team, often the tournament organizer will offer individual player registrations.  If individual player registration is offered, then those players will be placed on a team or, if permitted be assigned to an existing team.

There are several national and international tournaments that are played throughout the year.  Premier Sports Leagues are familiar with many of the tournaments organizations and will regularly post notice of these tournaments on the website along with emailing players who have previously registered in a Premier Sports Leagues activity.

From time to time, Premier Sports Leagues Club operator will reach out to their player database to gauge interest in forming a Club team to travel to an outside tournament, provided they feel the players are equipped with the skills and behaviour to represent their community Club.  For more information, contact the local community Club operator.

CAN I REQUEST A SPORTS TOURNAMENT FOR MY GROUP?
Yes.  Premier Sports Leagues can create a custom tournament for any group or organization.  Often a minor sports association, employer, group of friends or a social group will prefer to play among themselves and host an internal tournament as part of a fundraising event or fun team building activity.

Premier Sports Leagues will work with the group or organization to determine their needs and define the roles and responsibilities towards hosting a tournament.  In some cases, groups or organizations may want to consider offering their members one of our Sports Programs prior to the tournament to allow them to learn the rules of play and get a better feel for the sport if their members have never played the sports before.

Premier Sports Leagues can serve as the face of the tournament and offer a complete turnkey tournament package from online player registration to staffing, insurance, venue rental, equipment and delivery of the tournament.  If the group or organization prefers to be the face of the tournament, this option is also available and both parties can determine to what extent each gets involved in the tournament.  For more information, contact the local community Club operator.

WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT/ CLOTHING DO THE PLAYERS NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN A TOURNAMENT?
Players will need comfortable gym like clothing and clean indoor footwear that offers good traction and ankle support. Indoor footwear must always be secured (tie shoelaces) as there are frequent stop-starts and turning and loose footwear can impede movement or cause ankle fatigue/ injury.

Players should also consider eye protective wear, especially players under 14 or who are not experienced and just learning the sport.  Shin pads are recommended for players to ensure sticks and sneakers do not injury a player’s shins (it is suggested that high (knee) socks be worn if the player chooses to use shin pads).  Jock/ Cup protection is optional.

Helmets and gloves are not used by players, but in the sport of floorball goalies are obligated to wear both.  Jewelry must be removed during play.

Teams would be responsible for their own jerseys, however they must submit their team colours and name upon registration in order to avoid conflicts with other teams.  Note, team names must be appropriate, respectful and require approval by Premier Sports Leagues.

Premier Sports Leagues operators usually have extra equipment on hand during a tournament (i.e. floorball sticks) in the event a player has not yet purchased or forgets/loose their equipment.
